Let’s start the topic “He Hears” by considering the differences between thoughts, hopes, wishes, desires, requests, petitions, and prayers.

The dictionaries say:

Thought: The product of mental activity; the act or process of thinking.

Hope: To believe, desire, or trust; to look forward to with desire and reasonable confidence.

Wish: To want, desire, long for, yearn for.

Desire: To wish or long for; crave; want.

Request: The act of asking that something be given or done.

Petition: A request made for something desired.

Prayer: A devout petition or a spiritual communion with God.

While we enjoy the first four in the assumed privacy of our own minds, the second three require courage joined together with knowledge of the One Whom we are addressing with our requests, petitions, or prayers.

After all, if we thought God would kill us for asking, would we dare ask?

In addition to the wisdom of knowing God’s nature and character before we dare ask Him for anything, we might consider His ability to answer.

If God were weak, why would we waste our precious breath in asking anything of Him?

Genesis 2:7
7 Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath or spirit of life, and man became a living being.

Job 12:10
10 In His hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.

Job 27:3
3 As long as my life is still whole within me, and the breath of God is [yet] in my nostrils,

Job 33:4
4 [It is] the Spirit of God that made me [which has stirred me up], and the breath of the Almighty that gives me life [which inspires me].

Ezekiel 37:4-10
4 Again He said to me, Prophesy to these bones and say to them, O you dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.
    5 Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath and spirit to enter you, and you shall live;
6 And I will lay sinews upon you and bring up flesh upon you and cover you with skin, and I will put breath and spirit in you, and you [dry bones] shall live; and you shall know, understand, and realize that I AM the Lord [the Sovereign Ruler, Who calls forth loyalty and obedient service].
7 So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a [thundering] noise and behold, a shaking and trembling and a rattling, and the bones came together, bone to its bone.
8 And I looked and behold, there were sinews upon [the bones] and flesh came upon them and skin covered them over, but there was no breath or spirit in them.
9 Then said He to me, Prophesy to the breath and spirit, son of man, and say to the breath and spirit, Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath and spirit, and breathe upon these slain that they may live.
10 So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath and spirit came into [the bones], and they lived and stood up upon their feet, an exceedingly great host.

The following verses excellently summarize God’s abilities:

John 1:3
3All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being.

1 Corinthians 8:6
6Yet for us there is [only] one God, the Father, Who is the Source of all things and for Whom we [have life], and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through and by Whom are all things and through and by Whom we [ourselves exist].

Revelation 4:11
11Worthy are You, our Lord and God, to receive the glory and the honor and dominion, for You created all things; by Your will they were [brought into being] and were created.

Colossians 1:16-17
16For it was in Him that all things were created, in heaven and on earth, things seen and things unseen, whether thrones, dominions, rulers, or authorities; all things were created and exist through Him [by His service, intervention] and in and for Him.
17And He Himself existed before all things, and in Him all things consist (are held together).

Romans 11:36
36For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. [For all things originate with Him and come from Him; all things live through Him, and all things center in and tend to consummate and to end in Him.] To Him be glory forever! Amen (so be it).

Throughout this website the nature and character of the One Who Names Himself your Father shouts from every Bible verse.

As is discussed in the section called “He Sees,” since God exists outside of Time, He has seen every moment of your past, present, and future, simultaneously.

Because He is absolutely pure and holy, He was not behind any awful thing that happened to you in your past, nor will He ever be the source of any negative experience in your current or future circumstances.

All negative experiences occur as a result of human free will, as inspired and influenced by the enemy of our souls, satan. [You can read more about your enemies in the section called “His Enemies And Yours.”]

Those humans who are not influenced by God are influenced by satan; they are like marionettes who move each time satan pulls their strings.

Often, the human marionettes are not aware of their actions, nor are they aware of how you were impacted by their actions.

During each awful experience you endured in your past, God your Father was beside you.

Yes, He saw every evil action. Far more, He heard every one of the thoughts which motivated the perpetrators to action.

Genesis 6:5
5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination and intention of all human thinking was only evil continually.

As these awful events were unfolding, He ensured that each experience was not as horrible as satan intended it to be. God your Father was shielding you all the while, building in you what you would need so that you would turn to Him later in your life and be healed.

Romans 8:28
28 We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose.

Ever since, He has sent comforters into your life to minister to your grieving heart.

God your Father knew, and knows, that you would come to this website now and, as you spend time learning about His nature and character ― as you spend time realizing His absolute, eternal goodness and purity of Heart in His love for you, individually ― you would begin on a path of healing that would bring you and all people you love into fullness of life.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of sympathy (pity and mercy) and the God [Who is the Source] of every comfort (consolation and encouragement),
4 Who comforts (consoles and encourages) us in every trouble (calamity and affliction), so that we may also be able to comfort (console and encourage) those who are in any kind of trouble or distress, with the comfort (consolation and encouragement) with which we ourselves are comforted (consoled and encouraged) by God.

As is proved in the section called “His Presence,” God your Father desires that you experience and enjoy moment-to-moment relationship with Him. He is eternally Present with you and eternally beckoning to you to draw you nearer to His Heart of Love.

Jesus said in John 16:27 that God your Father Himself tenderly loves you.

As your Eternal Father, God longs to make His Presence real to you and enable you to grow in the security of His Pure Love for you.

As shown in the section “His Pure Love,” God’s Love is untainted by sin. As you’ll discover in the section “He Never Fails Us,” it is impossible for God to sin.

Sin is satan’s specialty, and everyone who sins has been deceived into their thoughts and actions by satan, who is also known as the father of lies.

As you will discover in the section called “He Protectively Warns,” satan is merely an evil angel whose time is extremely limited.

Revelation 20:10
10 Then the devil who had led them astray [deceiving and seducing them] was hurled into the fiery lake of burning brimstone, where the beast and false prophet were; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever (through the ages of the ages).

As discussed on the home page, God has created a place in His Heart that is yours. Only yours.

If for any reason you choose to reject His free gift of your own home within His Heart, though in His faithfulness your place will be reserved for you eternally, by your choice, your home in His Heart will remain empty throughout eternity.

Read how the Amplified English Bible describes eternity in Galatians 1:5: “To Him [be ascribed all] the glory through all the ages of the ages and the endless eternities of the eternities! Amen (so be it).”

This is eternal Truth, everlasting Reality: from before you were born throughout “the endless eternities of the eternities”:

God your Father sees.

God your Father hears.

God your Father knows and understands.

God your Father responds.

Whether you realize it or not, God your Father is with you moment-to-moment, observing your circumstances, knowing your choices, hearing your thoughts and hopes and desires and dreams.

He hears the prayers you have faith to pray.

He hears the prayers you don’t have the faith to pray.

He is beside you, always, ready to design your circumstances so that you do grow in your faith, so that you do have the courage in the context of your relationship with Him to ask, so that He may grant your request, so that He may give you the desires of your heart.

Ephesians 3:14-21
14 For this reason [seeing the greatness of this plan by which you are built together in Christ], I bow my knees before the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15 For Whom every family in heaven and on earth is named [that Father from Whom all fatherhood takes its title and derives its name].
16 May He grant you out of the rich treasury of His glory to be strengthened and reinforced with mighty power in the inner man by the [Holy] Spirit [Himself indwelling your innermost being and personality].
17 May Christ through your faith [actually] dwell (settle down, abide, make His permanent home) in your hearts! May you be rooted deep in love and founded securely on love,
    18 That you may have the power and be strong to apprehend and grasp with all the saints [God’s devoted people, the experience of that love] what is the breadth and length and height and depth [of it];
19 [That you may really come] to know [practically, through experience for yourselves] the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge [without experience]; that you may be filled [through all your being] unto all the fullness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself]!
20 Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]—
21 To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen (so be it).

While God your Father is willing ― and extremely able ― to grant your prayers, it is for relationship that God longs. Relationship with you.

Just as He communed moment-to-moment with Adam and Eve in the Garden, God desires to relate Heart-to-heart with you throughout your life.

Because God sees your past, present, and future simultaneously, He knows your thoughts before you think them. He knows your choices before you make them. He knows your desires before you even know them. He hears your prayers before you form them in your mind.

He desires to lead you into the choices and desires that will work together for your best good. He will engineer circumstances so that they lead you into praying the prayers which will achieve the best possible outcome for you.

He will lead you and guide you as you realize your calling, your purpose, your mission, your destiny. Once you do, you will pray for the desire of your heart, asking for God’s help in becoming who you were destined to be.

In response, God your Father will shout for joy at the prayers you pray which are the products of your relationship with Him ― and He Himself will give you the desires of your heart.

We started this section talking about the differences between thoughts, hopes, wishes, desires, requests, petitions, and prayers. As you draw near to God your Father, these concepts will combine within your day-to-day relationship with Him.

Thinking a thought will become the same as praying it. Hoping and desiring will become the same as petitioning God your Father to give you the desire of your heart.

He wants you to experience His Presence and wants you to come as close relationally to Him as you desire. Read those last three words again: “as you desire.”

When you read the section called “His Presence” you will begin a journey that will fill you with as much wonder and awe as Adam and Eve enjoyed when first they were walking with their Father in the Garden which He had prepared for them.

As God your Father assures in Isaiah 58:9, “Then you shall call , and the Lord will answer; you shall cry, and He will say, “Here I AM.”

The Spirit of God wants to prove to you that God, your loving Father, hears when you and your loved ones call to Him. Whether you suddenly shriek “HELP!” for your own rescue or whether you more quietly, persistently intercede for your loved ones, God your Father wants you to know He hears.

First, He’ll use His own Words as they are recorded in the Bible.

Next, He’ll use the Words of Jesus, Who is God’s Word made Man, Who perfectly reveals God’s Heart of love.

Finally, He’ll use words written down by fathers of the Christian faith as they wrote down what the Spirit of God inspired them to write.

11For thus says the Lord God: Behold, I, I Myself, will search for My sheep and will seek them out.

3And He said to me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord God, You know!
4Again He said to me, Prophesy to these bones and say to them, O you dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.
    5Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath and spirit to enter you, and you shall live;
6And I will lay sinews upon you and bring up flesh upon you and cover you with skin, and I will put breath and spirit in you, and you [dry bones] shall live; and you shall know, understand, and realize that I AM the Lord [the Sovereign Ruler, Who calls forth loyalty and obedient service].

8And I looked and behold, there were sinews upon [the bones] and flesh came upon them and skin covered them over, but there was no breath or spirit in them.

8The silver is Mine and the gold is Mine, says the Lord of hosts.

Jesus, Who perfectly represents Father God’s nature and character, said this about Father God’s Heart:

Mark 2:17
17And when Jesus heard it, He said to them, Those who are strong and well have no need of a physician, but those who are weak and sick; I came not to call the righteous ones to repentance, but sinners (the erring ones and all those not free from sin).

Mark 9:23
23And Jesus said, [You say to Me], If You can do anything? [Why,] all things can be (are possible) to him who believes!

Mark 10:27
27Jesus glanced around at them and said, With men [it is] impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.

Luke 6:46-49
46Why do you call Me, Lord, Lord, and do not [practice] what I tell you?
47For everyone who comes to Me and listens to My words [in order to heed their teaching] and does them, I will show you what he is like:
48He is like a man building a house, who dug and went down deep and laid a foundation upon the rock; and when a flood arose, the torrent broke against that house and could not shake or move it, because it had been securely built or founded on a rock.
49But he who merely hears and does not practice doing My words is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation, against which the torrent burst, and immediately it collapsed and fell, and the breaking and ruin of that house was great.

Luke 8:4-18
4And when a very great throng was gathering together and people from town after town kept coming to Jesus, He said in a parable:
5A sower went out to sow seed; and as he sowed, some fell along the traveled path and was trodden underfoot, and the birds of the air ate it up.
6And some [seed] fell on the rock, and as soon as it sprouted, it withered away because it had no moisture.
7And other [seed] fell in the midst of the thorns, and the thorns grew up with it and choked it [off].
8And some seed fell into good soil, and grew up and yielded a crop a hundred times [as great]. As He said these things, He called out, He who has ears to hear, let him be listening and let him consider and understand by hearing!
9And when His disciples asked Him the meaning of this parable,
10He said to them, To you it has been given to [come progressively to] know (to recognize and understand more strongly and clearly) the mysteries and secrets of the kingdom of God, but for others they are in parables, so that, [though] looking, they may not see; and hearing, they may not comprehend.
11Now the meaning of the parable is this: The seed is the Word of God.
12Those along the traveled road are the people who have heard; then the devil comes and carries away the message out of their hearts, that they may not believe (acknowledge Me as their Savior and devote themselves to Me) and be saved [here and hereafter].
13And those upon the rock [are the people] who, when they hear [the Word], receive and welcome it with joy; but these have no root. They believe for a while, and in time of trial and temptation fall away (withdraw and stand aloof).
14And as for what fell among the thorns, these are [the people] who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked and suffocated with the anxieties and cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not ripen (come to maturity and perfection).
15But as for that [seed] in the good soil, these are [the people] who, hearing the Word, hold it fast in a just (noble, virtuous) and worthy heart, and steadily bring forth fruit with patience.
16No one after he has lighted a lamp covers it with a vessel or puts it under a [dining table] couch; but he puts it on a lampstand, that those who come in may see the light.
17For there is nothing hidden that shall not be disclosed, nor anything secret that shall not be known and come out into the open.
18Be careful therefore how you listen. For to him who has [spiritual knowledge] will more be given; and from him who does not have [spiritual knowledge], even what he thinks and guesses and supposes that he has will be taken away.

Luke 11:28
28But He said, Blessed (happy and to be envied) rather are those who hear the Word of God and obey and practice it!

Luke 12:6-7
6Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And [yet] not one of them is forgotten or uncared for in the presence of God.
7But [even] the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not be struck with fear or seized with alarm; you are of greater worth than many [flocks] of sparrows.

Luke 12:11-12
11And when they bring you before the synagogues and the magistrates and the authorities, do not be anxious [beforehand] how you shall reply in defense or what you are to say.
12For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour and moment what [you] ought to say.

Luke 12:22-31
22And [Jesus] said to His disciples, Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious and troubled [with cares] about your life, as to what you will [have to] eat; or about your body, as to what you will [have to] wear.
23For life is more than food, and the body [more] than clothes.
24Observe and consider the ravens; for they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn; and [yet] God feeds them. Of how much more worth are you than the birds!
25And which of you by being overly anxious and troubled with cares can add a cubit to his stature or a moment [unit] of time to his age [the length of his life]?
26If then you are not able to do such a little thing as that, why are you anxious and troubled with cares about the rest?
27Consider the lilies, how they grow. They neither [wearily] toil nor spin nor weave; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory (his splendor and magnificence) was not arrayed like one of these. [I Kings 10:4-7.]
28But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today, and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you, O you [people] of little faith?
    29And you, do not seek [by meditating and reasoning to inquire into] what you are to eat and what you are to drink; nor be of anxious (troubled) mind [unsettled, excited, worried, and in suspense];
30For all the pagan world is [greedily] seeking these things, and your Father knows that you need them.
31Only aim at and strive for and seek His kingdom, and all these things shall be supplied to you also.

Luke 12:32
32Do not be seized with alarm and struck with fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom!

As you read the following parable, compare this father’s virtues to those of God, your Father:

Luke 15:11-32
    11And He said, There was a certain man who had two sons;
12And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the part of the property that falls [to me]. And he divided the estate between them.
13And not many days after that, the younger son gathered up all that he had and journeyed into a distant country, and there he wasted his fortune in reckless and loose [from restraint] living.
14And when he had spent all he had, a mighty famine came upon that country, and he began to fall behind and be in want.
15So he went and forced (glued) himself upon one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed hogs.
16And he would gladly have fed on and filled his belly with the carob pods that the hogs were eating, but [they could not satisfy his hunger and] nobody gave him anything [better].
17Then when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father have enough food, and [even food] to spare, but I am perishing (dying) here of hunger!
18I will get up and go to my father, and I will say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight.
19I am no longer worthy to be called your son; [just] make me like one of your hired servants.
20So he got up and came to his [own] father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was moved with pity [compassion] and tenderness [for him]; and he ran and embraced him and kissed him [fervently].
21And the son said to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight; I am no longer worthy to be called your son [I no longer deserve to be recognized as a son of yours]!
22But the father said to his bond servants, Bring quickly the best robe (the festive robe of honor) and put it on him; and give him a ring for his hand and sandals for his feet.
23And bring out that [wheat-]fattened calf and kill it; and let us revel and feast and be happy and make merry,
24Because this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found! And they began to revel and feast and make merry.
25But his older son was in the field; and as he returned and came near the house, he heard music and dancing.
26And having called one of the servant [boys] to him, he began to ask what this meant.
27And he said to him, Your brother has come, and your father has killed that [wheat-]fattened calf, because he has received him back safe and well.
28But [the elder brother] was angry [with deep-seated wrath] and resolved not to go in. Then his father came out and began to plead with him,
    29But he answered his father, Look! These many years I have served you, and I have never disobeyed your command. Yet you never gave me [so much as] a [little] kid, that I might revel and feast and be happy and make merry with my friends;
30But when this son of yours arrived, who has devoured your estate with immoral women, you have killed for him that [wheat-] fattened calf!
31And the father said to him, Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours.
32But it was fitting to make merry, to revel and feast and rejoice, for this brother of yours was dead and is alive again! He was lost and is found!

Luke 18:27
27But He said, What is impossible with men is possible with God.

Luke 19:28-40
28And after saying these things, Jesus went on ahead of them, going up to Jerusalem.
29When He came near Bethphage and Bethany at the mount called [the Mount of] Olives, He sent two of His disciples,
30Telling [them], Go into the village yonder; there, as you go in, you will find a donkey's colt tied, on which no man has ever yet sat. Loose it and bring [it here].
31If anybody asks you, Why are you untying [it]? you shall say this: Because the Lord has need of it.
32So those who were sent went away and found it [just] as He had told them.
33And as they were loosening the colt, its owners said to them, Why are you untying the colt?
34And they said, The Lord has need of it.
35And they brought it to Jesus; then they threw their garments over the colt and set Jesus upon it.
36And as He rode along, the people kept spreading their garments on the road. [II Kings 9:13.]
37As He was approaching [the city], at the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began to rejoice and to praise God [extolling Him exultantly and] loudly for all the mighty miracles and works of power that they had witnessed,
38Crying, Blessed (celebrated with praises) is the King Who comes in the Name of the Lord! Peace in heaven [freedom there from all the distresses that are experienced as the result of sin] and glory (majesty and splendor) in the highest [heaven]!
39And some of the Pharisees from the throng said to Jesus, Teacher, reprove Your disciples!
40He replied, I tell you that if these keep silent, the very stones will cry out.

Luke 21:27-28
27And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with great (transcendent and overwhelming) power and [all His kingly] glory (majesty and splendor).
28Now when these things begin to occur, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption (deliverance) is drawing near.

John 3:14-17
14And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert [on a pole], so must [so it is necessary that] the Son of Man be lifted up [on the cross],
15In order that everyone who believes in Him [who cleaves to Him, trusts Him, and relies on Him] may not perish, but have eternal life and [actually] live forever!
16For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.
17For God did not send the Son into the world in order to judge (to reject, to condemn, to pass sentence on) the world, but that the world might find salvation and be made safe and sound through Him.

John 5:18-47
18This made the Jews more determined than ever to kill Him [to do away with Him]; because He not only was breaking (weakening, violating) the Sabbath, but He actually was speaking of God as being [in a special sense] His own Father, making Himself equal [putting Himself on a level] with God.
19So Jesus answered them by saying, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, the Son is able to do nothing of Himself (of His own accord); but He is able to do only what He sees the Father doing, for whatever the Father does is what the Son does in the same way [in His turn].
20The Father dearly loves the Son and discloses to (shows) Him everything that He Himself does. And He will disclose to Him (let Him see) greater things yet than these, so that you may marvel and be full of wonder and astonishment.
21Just as the Father raises up the dead and gives them life [makes them live on], even so the Son also gives life to whomever He wills and is pleased to give it.
22Even the Father judges no one, for He has given all judgment (the last judgment and the whole business of judging) entirely into the hands of the Son,
23So that all men may give honor (reverence, homage) to the Son just as they give honor to the Father. [In fact] whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, Who has sent Him.
24I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, the person whose ears are open to My words [who listens to My message] and believes and trusts in and clings to and relies on Him Who sent Me has (possesses now) eternal life. And he does not come into judgment [does not incur sentence of judgment, will not come under condemnation], but he has already passed over out of death into life.
25Believe Me when I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, the time is coming and is here now when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear it shall live.
26For even as the Father has life in Himself and is self-existent, so He has given to the Son to have life in Himself and be self-existent.
27And He has given Him authority and granted Him power to execute (exercise, practice) judgment because He is a Son of man [very man].
28Do not be surprised and wonder at this, for the time is coming when all those who are in the tombs shall hear His voice,
29And they shall come out--those who have practiced doing good [will come out] to the resurrection of [new] life, and those who have done evil will be raised for judgment [raised to meet their sentence].
30I AM able to do nothing from Myself [independently, of My own accord--but only as I AM taught by God and as I get His orders]. Even as I hear, I judge [I decide as I AM bidden to decide. As the voice comes to Me, so I give a decision], and My judgment is right (just, righteous), because I do not seek or consult My own will [I have no desire to do what is pleasing to Myself, My own aim, My own purpose] but only the will and pleasure of the Father Who sent Me.
31If I alone testify in My behalf, My testimony is not valid and cannot be worth anything.
32There is Another Who testifies concerning Me, and I know and am certain that His evidence on My behalf is true and valid.
33You yourselves have sent [an inquiry] to John and he has been a witness to the truth.
34But I do not receive [a mere] human witness [the evidence which I accept on My behalf is not from man]; but I simply mention all these things in order that you may be saved (made and kept safe and sound).
35John was the lamp that kept on burning and shining [to show you the way], and you were willing for a while to delight (sun) yourselves in his light.
36But I have as My witness something greater (weightier, higher, better) than that of John; for the works that the Father has appointed Me to accomplish and finish, the very same works that I AM now doing, are a witness and proof that the Father has sent Me.
37And the Father Who sent Me has Himself testified concerning Me. Not one of you has ever given ear to His voice or seen His form (His face--what He is like). [You have always been deaf to His voice and blind to the vision of Him.]
38And you have not His word (His thought) living in your hearts, because you do not believe and adhere to and trust in and rely on Him Whom He has sent. [That is why you do not keep His message living in you, because you do not believe in the Messenger Whom He has sent.]
39You search and investigate and pore over the Scriptures diligently, because you suppose and trust that you have eternal life through them. And these [very Scriptures] testify about Me!
40And still you are not willing [but refuse] to come to Me, so that you might have life.
41I receive not glory from men [I crave no human honor, I look for no mortal fame],
42But I know you and recognize and understand that you have not the love of God in you.
43I have come in My Father's Name and with His power, and you do not receive Me [your hearts are not open to Me, you give Me no welcome]; but if another comes in his own name and his own power and with no other authority but himself, you will receive him and give him your approval.
44How is it possible for you to believe [how can you learn to believe], you who [are content to seek and] receive praise and honor and glory from one another, and yet do not seek the praise and honor and glory which come from Him Who alone is God?
45Put out of your minds the thought and do not suppose [as some of you are supposing] that I will accuse you before the Father. There is one who accuses you--it is Moses, the very one on whom you have built your hopes [in whom you trust].
46For if you believed and relied on Moses, you would believe and rely on Me, for he wrote about Me [personally].
47But if you do not believe and trust his writings, how then will you believe and trust My teachings? [How shall you cleave to and rely on My words?]

John 10:25-28
25Jesus answered them, I have told you so, yet you do not believe Me [you do not trust Me and rely on Me]. The very works that I do by the power of My Father and in My Father's Name bear witness concerning Me [they are My credentials and evidence in support of Me].
26But you do not believe and trust and rely on Me because you do not belong to My fold [you are no sheep of Mine].
27The sheep that are My own hear and are listening to My voice; and I know them, and they follow Me.
28And I give them eternal life, and they shall never lose it or perish throughout the ages. [To all eternity they shall never by any means be destroyed.] And no one is able to snatch them out of My hand.
