Imagine for a moment that you are enjoying a moment of quiet in your favorite spot in your home. Holy Spirit has gifted you with an almost-overpowering need to pray for one of your friends, and because all your thoughts are completely focused on your friend, you are huddled into a ball, your forehead touching the floor in front of you, and the desire to pray for your friend covers you like a cape draped over your body.

With every beat of your heart, prayers burst forth to Father God, the only One Who can save your friend from these awful circumstances.

Suddenly! Where there was no door a moment ago, a huge door appears in front of you, opens wide in invitation, and before you can move from your huddled position, you see a most amazing sight!

Daniel 7:9-10
9 I kept looking until thrones were placed [for the assessors with the Judge], and the Ancient of Days [God, the eternal Father] took His seat, Whose garment was white as snow and the hair of His head like pure wool. His throne was like the fiery flame; its wheels were burning fire.
10 A stream of fire came forth from before Him; a thousand thousands ministered to Him and ten thousand times ten thousand rose up and stood before Him; the Judge was seated [the court was in session] and the books were opened.

Daniel 7:13-14
13 I saw in the night visions, and behold, on the clouds of the heavens came One like a Son of man, and He came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before Him.
14 And there was given Him [the Messiah] dominion and glory and kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion which shall not pass away, and His kingdom is one which shall not be destroyed.

You watch in awe as the Ancient of Days, God, the eternal Father, places a crown on Jesus’ head, and once the crown rests on His majestic head, stars of every color explode forth in every direction from the crown and burst forward on their appointed journeys to the remote edges of the eternities.

The scene transforms and, before you can realize what you are seeing … suddenly! Trumpets sound out an announcement!

Ten thousands of excited angels line the path from the throne to the open door before you and, before you can realize all that is happening, an angel’s voice thunders:

Psalm 24:7-10
7 Lift up your heads, O you gates; and be lifted up, you age-abiding doors, that the King of glory may come in.
8 Who is the King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, O you gates; yes, lift them up, you age-abiding doors, that the King of glory may come in.
10 Who is [He then] this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah [pause, and think of that]!

The moment the angel finishes, you see as John saw and you respond as John responded:

Revelation 1:13-18
13 And in the midst of the lampstands [One] like a Son of Man, clothed with a robe which reached to His feet and with a girdle of gold about His breast.
14 His head and His hair were white like white wool, [as white] as snow, and His eyes [flashed] like a flame of fire.
15 His feet glowed like burnished (bright) bronze as it is refined in a furnace, and His voice was like the sound of many waters.
16 In His right hand He held seven stars, and from His mouth there came forth a sharp two-edged sword, and His face was like the sun shining in full power at midday.
17 When I [John] saw Him, I fell at His feet as if dead. But He laid His right hand on me and said, Do not be afraid! I AM the First and the Last,
    18 And the Ever-living One [
I AM living in the eternity of the eternities]. I died, but see, I AM alive forevermore; and I possess the keys of death and Hades (the realm of the dead).

Your only response to this majesty can be as John’s, to fall down on your face in worship.

He lays the seven stars down at the door, and you wonder why. What else will He need to put in His hands?

He extends His hand toward you and, when you place your hand in His, He lifts you to your feet. He said, “Of all the peoples throughout the nations of the earth, you alone pray for your friend, and your faithfulness in prayer has brought Me great pleasure.”

He takes both your hands in His, and you began to twirl together in circles, slowly at first, then faster and faster and faster.

Though He has dramatically reduced Himself in size, He still is much taller than you, and as He increases the speed, His exceedingly muscular arms tense to pull you higher, and your feet lift off the ground!

You and He are spinning and twirling ― you are now parallel to the floor ― and He begins to laugh.

His voice, normally like the sound of many waters, changes with the laughter into the singing of the waters at the top of Heaven’s highest waterfall ― waters of deep, deep joy ― and you realize that His laughter is the birthplace of Vibrant, Everlasting Life.

As ten thousand angels watch in admiration that you could bring such joy to their King, He throws His head back with such delight that His crown falls to the floor behind Him, you feel everything in the room shake violently as He draws in His breath, and He sends forth a tidal-wave shout of joy so powerful that clouds ride His tidal-wave shout of joy past the sun to the farthest side of eternity.

Zephaniah 3:17
17 The Lord your God is in the midst of you, a Mighty One, a Savior [Who saves]! He will rejoice over you with joy; He will rest [in silent satisfaction] and in His love He will be silent and make no mention [of past sins, or even recall them]; He will exult over you with singing.

At that moment, you realize you haven’t observed life. You have experienced Him.

Philosophers through the centuries have debated their views about this life.

Some dreary-minded thinkers so focus on the destination that their lives can only be called lifeless. Hopeless.

Romans 8:18
18 [But what of that?] For I consider that the sufferings of this present time (this present life) are not worth being compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us and in us and for us and conferred on us!

Those who have decided that life is a journey encourage everyone they know to remember to enjoy the journey even as they progress toward the destination.

In other words, many believe the goal of their lives should not be the destination.

They decide that the goal of their lives is to thrive and enjoy abundant life as they progress toward the destination.

They believe that Jesus meant what He said when He offered abundant life.

They reason that life is a dress rehearsal. The more experienced they are in joy and peace and rest and love and wisdom and truth and grace, the more they will be prepared for, and enjoy, their eternity.

What about you? Do you believe true life begins at the destination—or can vibrant life be yours as you move toward your destination?

God your Father offers both to you.

Acts 17:25
25 Neither is He served by human hands, as though He lacked anything, for it is He Himself Who gives life and breath and all things to all [people].

His Word, the Bible, is filled with promises concerning eternal life and quite a lot of detail about what heaven —some people call it paradise — is like. The last book of the Bible, the Book of Revelation, details the future of all beings.

As you read, you just visited the destination God your Father arranged for you a moment ago.

There, He offers far, far more than the true riches of this earth.

He offers, and invites you to share, an eternity where there is only joy and peace and where there is no suffering, sorrow, regret, or pain.

Your journey to your eternity can be excellent, too, even though you share the journey with all-too-human humans.

As you progress through your life, God your Father offers you abundant joy and peace ― and other of His true riches ― so that your journey abounds with His blessings.

He is pleased to lavish you with His true riches, since He has chosen you and adopted you as His beloved child.

Even though all the riches of His kingdom are yours for the asking, you have the choice whether or not to receive His treasures.

As detailed in the section named Gifts He’s Already Given You, these gifts have already been given to you, but you need to receive these gifts. You need to make one decision.

Because your eternity pivots on one decision you make while you still have breath, let’s look at the eternal destination described at the start of this page.

For those of us who are limited by our humanity and are bound by Time, the concepts of eternity and eternal life are hard to grasp.

Let’s investigate what the New Testament of the Bible says about eternal life.

New Testament writers encouraged:

Romans 8:32
32 He who did not withhold or spare [even] His own Son but gave Him up for us all, will He not also with Him freely and graciously give us all [other] things?

John 3:15
15 In order that everyone who believes in Him [who cleaves to Him, trusts Him, and relies on Him] may not perish, but have eternal life and [actually] live forever!

John 3:16
16 For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.

1 John 5:20
20 And we [have seen and] know [positively] that the Son of God has [actually] come to this world and has given us understanding and insight [progressively] to perceive (recognize) and come to know better and more clearly Him Who is true; and we are in Him Who is true—in His Son Jesus Christ (the Messiah). This [Man] is the true God and Life eternal.

Jude 1:21
21 Guard and keep yourselves in the love of God; expect and patiently wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah)—[which will bring you] unto life eternal.

Jesus surprised His listeners when He defined eternal life:

John 17:3
3 And this is eternal life: [it means] to know (to perceive, recognize, become acquainted with, and understand) You, the only true and real God, and [likewise] to know Him, Jesus [as the] Christ (the Anointed One, the Messiah), Whom You have sent.

John 20:31
31 But these are written (recorded) in order that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ (the Anointed One), the Son of God, and that through believing and cleaving to and trusting and relying upon Him you may have life through (in) His name [through Who He is].

Jesus promises eternal life to those who, through faith, invite Him into their hearts:

John 6:47
47 I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, he who believes in Me [who adheres to, trusts in, relies on, and has faith in Me] has (now possesses) eternal life.

The eternal life that Jesus offers is not based on our performance. Because we are limited by our humanity, no matter how hard we try, we cannot “perform” well enough to “earn” eternal life. Why is this?

Romans 3:23
23 Since all have sinned and are falling short of the honor and glory which God bestows and receives.

Through faith in Jesus we can be freed from the consequences of our own wrong choices.

Romans 3:24
24 [All] are justified and made upright and in right standing with God, freely and gratuitously by His grace (His unmerited favor and mercy), through the redemption which is [provided] in Christ Jesus,

Romans 6:22
22 But now since you have been set free from sin and have become the slaves of God, you have your present reward in holiness and its end is eternal life.

The only way to experience true freedom and true life is to accept the finished work of Jesus when He shed His blood for you.

John 8:32
32 And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.

John 8:36
36 So if the Son liberates you [makes you free men], then you are really and unquestionably free.

When you believe in Jesus and invite Him into your heart, you receive God’s gift — His free gift.

Romans 6:23
23 For the wages which sin pays is death, but the [bountiful] free gift of God is eternal life through (in union with) Jesus Christ our Lord.

Ephesians 1:6
6 [So that we might be] to the praise and the commendation of His glorious grace (favor and mercy), which He so freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.

If you choose to accept the free gift that God, your Father, offers you through Jesus, you can experience freedom.

That freedom releases you, first of all, into eternal life through Jesus, and second, into thriving, vibrant life on this earth now.

1 John 1:1-2
1 [We are writing] about the Word of Life [in] Him Who existed from the beginning, Whom we have heard, Whom we have seen with our [own] eyes, Whom we have gazed upon [for ourselves] and have touched with our [own] hands.
2 And the Life [an aspect of His being] was revealed (made manifest, demonstrated), and we saw [as eyewitnesses] and are testifying to and declare to you the Life, the eternal Life [in Him] Who already existed with the Father and Who [actually] was made visible (was revealed) to us [His followers].

1 Thessalonians 5:10
10 Who died for us so that whether we are still alive or are dead [at Christ’s appearing], we might live together with Him and share His life.

Colossians 3:4
4 When Christ, Who is our life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in [the splendor of His] glory.

Fathers of the faith have this to say about the free gift of God that He has reserved for you:

1 Corinthians 2:12
12 Now we have not received the spirit [that belongs to] the world, but the [Holy] Spirit Who is from God, [given to us] that we might realize and comprehend and appreciate the gifts [of divine favor and blessing so freely and lavishly] bestowed on us by God.

Ephesians 2:8
    8 For it is by free grace (God’s unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God;

Romans 8:21
21 That nature (creation) itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and corruption [and gain an entrance] into the glorious freedom of God’s children.

Hebrews 2:15
15 And also that He might deliver and completely set free all those who through the [haunting] fear of death were held in bondage throughout the whole course of their lives.

Romans 8:2
2 For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has freed me from the law of sin and of death.

Galatians 5:1
5 In [this] freedom Christ has made us free [and completely liberated us]; stand fast then, and do not be hampered and held ensnared and submit again to a yoke of slavery [which you have once put off].

As shown in the section called Jesus As Word, Jesus is God. As discussed in the section called Jesus’ Sacrifice, God became a man, and lived His life free from sin.

God as Man willingly chose to offer up His life — to pour out His Blood — as His gift to you.

In other words, because Jesus’ life was offered in exchange for your life, you can experience, and enjoy, vibrant, thriving life on this earth and throughout eternity.

1 Corinthians 1:30
30 But it is from Him that you have your life in Christ Jesus, Whom God made our Wisdom from God, [revealed to us a knowledge of the divine plan of salvation previously hidden, manifesting itself as] our Righteousness [thus making us upright and putting us in right standing with God], and our Consecration [making us pure and holy], and our Redemption [providing our ransom from eternal penalty for sin].

Ephesians 4:7
7 Yet grace (God’s unmerited favor) was given to each of us individually [not indiscriminately, but in different ways] in proportion to the measure of Christ’s [rich and bounteous] gift.

Spend a moment thinking of the measure of Christ’s gift.

In response, we proclaim:

2 Corinthians 9:15
15 Now thanks be to God for His Gift, [precious] beyond telling [His indescribable, inexpressible, free Gift]!

Take a moment to consider what “vibrant” life means to you. What type life would make you thrive?

Jesus promises vibrant life and is extending vibrant life to you now. From the moment of your response to His invitation, He began arranging your circumstances for your best good, here, now. You don’t have to wait for eternity to begin for you for you to begin thriving now.

Revelation 21:6
6 And He [further] said to me, It is done! I AM the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I [Myself] will give water without price from the fountain (springs) of the water of Life.

John 4:14
14 But whoever takes a drink of the water that I will give him shall never, no never, be thirsty any more. But the water that I will give him shall become a spring of water welling up (flowing, bubbling) [continually] within him unto (into, for) eternal life.

Revelation 22:1-2
22 Then he showed me the river whose waters give life, sparkling like crystal, flowing out from the throne of God and of the Lamb
2 Through the middle of the broadway of the city; also, on either side of the river was the tree of life with its twelve varieties of fruit, yielding each month its fresh crop; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing and the restoration of the nations.

John 11:25
    25 Jesus said to her,
I AM [Myself] the Resurrection and the Life. Whoever believes in (adheres to, trusts in, and relies on) Me, although he may die, yet he shall live;

Because God’s goodness is His most excellent glory, even from when He created the foundations of the earth, it has been God’s intention to lavish us with life overflowing with abundance and goodness. You might want to review the sections His Creativity, His Lavish Generosity, and His Gifts before reading here, because they offer an excellent foundation for understanding the height, depth, width, and breadth of God’s desire to bless with vibrant life. Jesus said:

John 10:10
10The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).

Abundance of life can also be called fullness of life:

Colossians 2:9-10
9For in Him [Jesus] the whole fullness of Deity (the Godhead) continues to dwell in bodily form [giving complete expression of the divine nature].
10And you are in Him, made full and having come to fullness of life [in Christ you too are filled with the Godhead--Father, Son and Holy Spirit--and reach full spiritual stature]. …

Colossians 3:1-4
1If then you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, thus sharing His resurrection from the dead], aim at and seek the [rich, eternal treasures] that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
2And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth.
3For [as far as this world is concerned] you have died, and your [new, real] life is hidden with Christ in God.
4When Christ, Who is our life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in [the splendor of His] glory.

Let’s look into the vibrant life that Father God offers us.

God, Who names Himself your Father, assures:

Deuteronomy 28:1-14
1If you will listen diligently to the voice of the Lord your God, being watchful to do all His commandments which I command you this day, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.
2And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you if you heed the voice of the Lord your God.
3Blessed shall you be in the city and blessed shall you be in the field.
4Blessed shall be the fruit of your body and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your beasts, the increase of your cattle and the young of your flock.
5Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading trough (bowl for making bread dough).
6Blessed shall you be when you come in and blessed shall you be when you go out.
7The Lord shall cause your enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.
8The Lord shall command the blessing upon you in your storehouse and in all that you undertake. And He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God gives you.
9The Lord will establish you as a people holy to Himself, as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in His ways.
10And all people of the earth shall see that you are called by the Name [and the presence of] the Lord, and they shall be afraid of you.
11And the Lord shall make you have a surplus of prosperity, through the fruit of your body, of your livestock, and of your ground, in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers to give you.
12The Lord shall open to you His good treasury, the heavens, to give the rain of your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands; and you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.
13And the Lord shall make you the head, and not the tail; and you shall be above only, and you shall not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you this day and are watchful to do them.
14And you shall not turn aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right hand or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

Leviticus 26:3-8
3If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments and do them,
4I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase and the trees of the field yield their fruit.
5And your threshing [time] shall reach to the vintage and the vintage [time] shall reach to the sowing time, and you shall eat your bread to the full and dwell in your land securely.
6I will give peace in the land; you shall lie down and none shall fill you with dread or make you afraid; and I will clear ferocious (wild) beasts out of the land, and no sword shall go through your land.
7And you shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.
8Five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight; your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

Leviticus 26:9
9For I will be leaning toward you with favor and regard for you, rendering you fruitful, multiplying you, and establishing and ratifying My covenant with you.

In these following verses, one aspect of “steadfast love” is certainly Fatherly care:

Exodus 20:6
6But showing mercy and steadfast love to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments.

Deuteronomy 5:10
10And showing mercy and steadfast love to thousands and to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments.

Deuteronomy 7:9
9Know, recognize, and understand therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, Who keeps covenant and steadfast love and mercy with those who love Him and keep His commandments, to a thousand generations.

Psalm 105:8
8He is [earnestly] mindful of His covenant and forever it is imprinted on His heart, the word which He commanded and established to a thousand generations,

Even as you seek abundance from I AM:

Jeremiah 9:23-24
    23Thus says the Lord: Let not the wise and skillful person glory and boast in his wisdom and skill; let not the mighty and powerful person glory and boast in his strength and power; let not the person who is rich [in physical gratification and earthly wealth] glory and boast in his [temporal satisfactions and earthly] riches;
24But let him who glories glory in this: that he understands and knows Me [personally and practically, directly discerning and recognizing My character], that I AM the Lord, Who practices loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth, for in these things I delight, says the Lord.

One of Jesus’ disciples, John, described the lavish generosity of I AM this way:

John 1:16
16For out of His fullness (abundance) we have all received [all had a share and we were all supplied with] one grace after another and spiritual blessing upon spiritual blessing and even favor upon favor and gift [heaped] upon gift.

Let’s investigate other gifts lavished upon us by I AM. If you pay attention to words like “bountiful, lavish, abundant, abundance, surpassing, and exceeding,” you’ll nod in agreement with the word “lavished”:

11May the Lord, the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times as many as you are and bless you as He has promised you!

God, Who names Himself your Father, assures:

Genesis 9:12-13
12And God said, This is the token of the covenant (solemn pledge) which I AM making between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations:
13I set My bow [rainbow] in the cloud, and it shall be a token or sign of a covenant or solemn pledge between Me and the earth.

Exodus 33:11-17
11And the Lord spoke with Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. Moses returned to the camp, but his minister Joshua, a young man, did not depart from the [prayer] tent.
12Moses said to the Lord, See, You say to me, Bring up this people, but You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You said, I know you by name and you have also found favor in My sight.
13Now therefore, I pray You, if I have found favor in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You [progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with You, perceiving and recognizing and understanding more strongly and clearly] and that I may find favor in Your sight. And [Lord, do] consider that this nation is Your people.
14And the Lord said, My Presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest.
15And Moses said to the Lord, If Your Presence does not go with me, do not carry us up from here!
16For by what shall it be known that I and Your people have found favor in Your sight? Is it not in Your going with us so that we are distinguished, I and Your people, from all the other people upon the face of the earth?
17And the Lord said to Moses I will do this thing also that you have asked, for you have found favor, loving-kindness, and mercy in My sight and I know you personally and by name.

20But, He said, You can not see My face, for no man shall see Me and live.
21And the Lord said, Behold, there is a place beside Me, and you shall stand upon the rock,
22And while My glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft of the rock and cover you with My hand until I have passed by.
