Throughout the Bible, God says that He is with His people, He dwells among us, and the New Testament even says that if we ask Him, He will dwell within our hearts. Not all the verses in this section have the word “dwell” in them, but His manifest Presence, and His desire to be with you, is implied by His Words.

If you “listen” with your heart, you will “hear” God your Father express His desire to be ever with you, encouraging you, counseling you, imparting His wisdom to you, partnering with you, and giving you everything you need in order to succeed.

He has given you free will, and it is your choice whether or not you invite Him to dwell with you.

Jesus is the Door to the deepest possible relationship with God as your Father. All you need do is acknowledge that when Jesus died and shed His Blood, He accomplished everything necessary to restore you to the Father-child relationship with God for which you were created.

Then, invite God’s Spirit to dwell within your heart. You see, He only comes as close as you request, and as you allow.

In the Old Testament, God shocked the people by saying He was willing to draw near and dwell among them. Very few people wanted that. They preferred to have Moses as the intermediary between them and God. They preferred to have God far away from them; when they saw His glory blazing on a mountain top, that was close enough for them.

The people of the Old Testament insisted on a “go-between” ― someone who held the position of priest or prophet or king or judge ― who would interact with God and then communicate what God had said. Throughout the Old Testament God grieved at their choices. In fact, you will learn much about the Father Heart of God in the section named He Grieves.

There were only a few people in the Old Testament who were willing to enter into relationship with God. They are quoted throughout this website.

In what the Book of Galatians calls “the fullness of time,” God the Father sent Jesus to earth as surely as an army commander sends his soldiers into battle. You can learn about Jesus’ mission in the sections He Sent Jesus, Jesus’ Mission, Jesus’ Sacrifice, and Jesus’ Exchanges.

When Jesus died on the cross, God the Father dramatically proved His desire to come near.

The curtain of the Holy of Holies in the temple mentioned in the next verse symbolized the separation of the Holy God from the sinful people. Scholars say that it took eight horses [four on each side] pulling with all their strength to part the heavy curtain. Once a year, the high priest would purify himself and enter the Holy of Holies, trembling.

Scholars assert that just prior to the high priest entering this most holy place, his fellow priests would tie a rope around his ankle. That way, if he was not pure when he entered the holy place and God struck him dead, they could pull him out!

When Jesus died, the curtain to that same Holy of Holies was ripped into two pieces, symbolizing access to God. Read the next verses and spend time thinking about the direction the curtain was torn.

Who could have torn the curtain?

Matthew 27:50-53
50And Jesus cried again with a loud voice and gave up His spirit.
51And at once the curtain [of the Holy of Holies] of the sanctuary of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; the earth shook and the rocks were split.
    52The tombs were opened and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep in death were raised [to life];
53And coming out of the tombs after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

Matthew 27:54
54When the centurion and those who were with him keeping watch over Jesus observed the earthquake and all that was happening, they were terribly frightened and filled with awe, and said, Truly this was God's Son!

The curtain was ripped. Torn. Not slowly, carefully cut. Ripped in two. From top to bottom.

What does this tell you about the Heart of your Father, God?

What does this tell you about the Heart of God, Who names Himself your Father?

With the death of Jesus, God Himself issued a New Covenant. The old covenant was replaced by a better covenant.

Instead of God dwelling among His people, as was the case in Old Covenant times, under the New Covenant, through His Spirit, He desires to dwell within His children, empowering them day to day.

Notice the change from “dwelling-among-people” to “dwelling-within-His children.”

Both of these demonstrate the desire of God your Father to be with you, to have relationship with you.

How long does God your Father desire to be with you?

God exists outside of Time and eternity. Throughout His Word, the Bible, He asserts that He is, was, and always will be.

Revelation 1:8
8 I AM the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, says the Lord God, He Who is and Who was and Who is to come, the Almighty (the Ruler of all).

Revelation 4:8
8 And the four living creatures, individually having six wings, were full of eyes all over and within [underneath their wings]; and day and night they never stop saying, Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty (Omnipotent), Who was and Who is and Who is to come.

In Exodus 3:14, He named Himself I AM. [For more insights into God’s Names, go to the sections His Name Is I AM and His Names.]

In other words, because God exists outside of Time and eternity, God desires relationship with you throughout Time and eternity … and beyond!

Spend a moment thinking about God’s eagerness for relationship with you that He tore [not methodically cut] the curtain from top to bottom, and then tie those thoughts together with “beyond eternity.”

With these things in mind, let’s see what God Himself says about His desire to dwell among and with us. Even more specifically, let’s see what God Himself says about His desire to have relationship with you.

After all, “dwell” doesn’t imply a one-time, spontaneous, unplanned introduction.

Like the verses in Ezekiel following where He illustrates with the picture of a shepherd looking for his sheep, His desire for relationship with you is not passive.

Since the foundations of the earth, He has actively pursued relationship with you: Actively. Pursued. Relationship With You.

8The silver is Mine and the gold is Mine, says the Lord of hosts.

Hebrews 1:3 declares: "He is the sole expression of the glory of God [the Light-being, the out-raying or radiance of the divine], and He is the perfect imprint and very image of [God's] nature... ."

Jesus, Who perfectly demonstrates I AM’s nature and character, speaks:

Matthew 6:25-34
25Therefore I tell you, stop being perpetually uneasy (anxious and worried) about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink; or about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life greater [in quality] than food, and the body [far above and more excellent] than clothing?
26Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father keeps feeding them. Are you not worth much more than they?
27And who of you by worrying and being anxious can add one unit of measure (cubit) to his stature or to the span of his life?
28And why should you be anxious about clothes? Consider the lilies of the field and learn thoroughly how they grow; they neither toil nor spin.
29Yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his magnificence was not arrayed like one of these.
30But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and green and tomorrow is tossed into the furnace, will He not much more surely clothe you, O you of little faith?
31Therefore do not worry and be anxious, saying, What are we going to have to eat? or, What are we going to have to drink? or, What are we going to have to wear?
32For the Gentiles wish for and crave and diligently seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows well that you need them all.
33But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.
34So do not worry or be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have worries and anxieties of its own. Sufficient for each day is its own trouble.

Matthew 7:7-11
7Keep on asking and it will be given you; keep on seeking and you will find; keep on knocking [reverently] and [the door] will be opened to you.
8For everyone who keeps on asking receives; and he who keeps on seeking finds; and to him who keeps on knocking, [the door] will be opened.
9Or what man is there of you, if his son asks him for a loaf of bread, will hand him a stone?
10Or if he asks for a fish, will hand him a serpent?
11If you then, evil as you are, know how to give good and advantageous gifts to your children, how much more will your Father Who is in heaven [perfect as He is] give good and advantageous things to those who keep on asking Him!
